Did you know that busking at Bumbershoot can be traced back to 1971, making this a 49 year old festival tradition?
In fact, buskers & street performers have been an essential element to the character and personality of Bumbershoot, and has included some familiar performers as Mary Lou Lord and Joan Baez (twice!). While a lot has changed since the early days of the festival, our commitment to presenting the finest and most talented performers in the northwest continues today.
Whether you are a performer with a long history with Bumbershoot or a burgeoning talent who would like to entertain festival-goers for the very first time, we’ll do our best to find a place for you, if you have what it takes!
Space is limited, though, so be sure your application captures the attention of our busker curators.
Are you the best of the best? If so, WE WANT YOU!
GENERAL INFO: In 2019, Bumbershoot will feature 2 hour, 3 hour or 4 hour shifts for interactive performers in key locations throughout Seattle Center for busking over the three day festival. Busking styles will include variety and circus arts to include: jugglers, acrobats, theater arts, dance, puppetry, and more. NOTE: Bumbershoot has outdoor sound stages with amplified music making it difficult to accommodate musical buskers in many areas of Seattle Center The setting is most conductive to performers with visual draw without amplification, but we will consider musical acts – space will just be limited to accommodate more than a handful. Animal acts will not be considered.
WHAT YOU GET: Invited buskers will be given a Bumbershoot pass, a place to store gear in between sets and will be given a modest honorarium based on number of days and .length of shift. Additionally, 100% of your busking tips are yours to keep.
HOW IT WORKS: Buskers will be scheduled in 2-4 hour slots throughout the day in various pitches between 2pm and 8pm.
GENERAL UNDERSTANDING OF GOOD WILL: Buskers will be expected to add to the festival vibe. Engaging acts that deliver wonder, excitement and fun are preferred. All chosen performers agree to operate under the Bumbershoot code of ethics.
