One Reel Volunteer Positions

BUMBERSHOOT VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Administrative Assistant/Receptionist – This volunteer assists the team in the reception area of the festival’s administrative offices by courteously directing callers, guests and staff to information they need in a professional and compassionate manner. Resume and Interview Required.

Admissions Crew Member – Volunteers on the Admissions Crew facilitate the festival’s re-entry system by scanning tickets and stamping hands as customers leave the festival. The Admissions Crew is responsible for all operations at the gates, and volunteers in this position are vital to maintaining the festival as a venue to which ticket-holders can smoothly come and go as they please.

Airport Greeter – Airport Greeters put a face on the Bumbershoot festival for arriving artists and performers by greeting them at the airport. Airport greeters also announce and coordinate an artist or performer's arrival with their transportation, and the logistics base on the festival grounds. Airport Greeters are an artist or performer's first contact with the festival and with One Reel as an organization, providing a chance to make a good impression and set the tone for the weekend. Catering Assistant – Catering Assistants work behind-the-scenes with catering staff to provide meals and refreshments for performers, artists, staff and crew at the event.

Exhibit Attendant (Visual and Literary Arts) – Exhibit Attendants assist curators and artists during exhibit hours by providing information to the public about the exhibit and the artwork. Attendees also monitor crowds to prevent undesired interference with the art, in accordance with the wishes of the artist

Floater – Floaters perform a wide variety of tasks, as they fill-in when extra volunteers are needed unexpectedly, or when scheduled volunteers fail to report for duty.

Front of House Assistant – The Front of House Assistant coordinates directly between the public and the Venue Manager to manage the formation and flow of lines into the limited capacity, indoor festival venues. This volunteer uses his or her loud, clear and polite voice to make general announcements to people in line and answer common questions.

Hands-on Art Activity Assistant – Hands-On Art Activity Assistants have a major role in directly involving the public in a fun and tactile way, by facilitating the creation of hands-on arts and crafts activities. They inspire and assist children with their creations, and guide adults as necessary to make unique items that can be taken home as a memento of each person's experience.

Hospitality Area Assistant (Sponsorship & Gold/Platinum Pass) – Hospitality Area volunteers assist in hospitality area set-up by arranging tables, hanging posters and arranging general décor. During the festival, volunteers welcome hospitality area guests, answer questions, make sure that the area is clean, and replenish food, beverage and utensils when necessary.

Info Booth/Wristband Assistant – This volunteer is the customer service end of the wristband system in place to meet Fire Marshall regulations for venue capacity at the Stadium Mainstage. He or she places wristbands on patrons at the festival, greets and provides general information to the public, and may assist the Booth Manager with line control and wristband counts.

Line Manager – Line Manager volunteers help manage the formation and flow of lines at the festival entry gates. He or she uses a loud, clear and polite voice to make general announcements to people in line, answer common questions, and direct people to appropriate lines for ticket holders, ticket-buyers, and re-entry.

Literary Stage Assistant – The Literary Stage Assistant supports the Literary Arts programming at Bumbershoot by assisting the Literary Stage Manager to coordinate performance schedules, interact with the artists and run errands as needed.

Literary Workshop Assistant – The Literary Workshop Assistant directly involves the public in the literary and visual arts by helping to facilitate fun, tactile learning and creative activities in the Ink Spot.

Parade & Spectacles Crew – The Parade & Spectacles Crew takes part in the parade that winds through the Bumbershoot grounds, navigating larger-than-life puppets through festival crowds.

Pass Gate Greeter – Pass Gate Greeters help direct and assist the flow of artists, vendors and working staff at the pass gates in the morning, before the festival opens to the public each day.

Production Assistant – Production Assistants augment the muscle of the production crew by helping load inventory and install the physical elements of the festival grounds – tents, booths, fences, flooring, etc.

Programming Reception – Volunteers for Programming Reception are the first point of contact for the administrative base of the Programming department during the festival. Programming Receptionists take calls, answer questions and route all incoming inquiries. Resume and Interview Required.

Special Projects Production Crew – The Special Projects Production Crew prepares the visual elements and hands-on activities at the festival by loading inventory, installing venue décor, preparing art activity environments and exhibits, and distributing and installing venue signage.

Sponsorship Distribution – Sponsorship Distribution volunteers load and deliver sponsor product for use in the staff and VIP hospitality areas on festival grounds.

Stadium Dressing Room Assistant – The Stadium Dressing Room Assistant works behind-the-scenes at the Stadium Mainstage to assist the Backstage Coordinator in maintaining the décor, tidiness and stock of refreshments in the performer dressing rooms. Resume and Interview Required.

Stadium Runner – The Stadium Runner uses their own vehicle and knowledge of the Seattle city streets to run errands, pick up and deliver supplies and equipment for artist hospitality and Production at the Stadium Mainstage. Resume and Interview Required.

Street Team – Street Team Members get the word out in their communities about One Reel’s events by picking up promotional materials in bulk form our offices, and distributing them to local businesses and at other events. Members of the Team act as ambassadors of goodwill to establishments in their area, while gathering useful information about where One Reel can successfully market its events.

Survey Taker – Survey takers gather valuable marketing data for the Public Relations & Marketing department by roaming the grounds and administering opinion surveys to receptive festivalgoers.

VIP Escort (Gold/Platinum Pass Holders & Sponsors) – VIP Escorts graciously greet and guide Sponsors, Gold or Platinum Pass Holders and other guests through the Stadium Mainstage to their reserved seating area, ensuring that guests feel well-treated.

Visual Arts Exhibit Installation Assistant – Visual Arts Exhibit Installation Assistants work with curators and artists to help install exhibits in Bumbershoot's visual arts program.

Volunteer Check-in Assistant – This person assists in the operation of volunteer headquarters by greeting volunteers, recording check-in times, directing volunteers to work sites, and distributing t-shirts, ID and food coupons. Resume and Interview Required.

SUMMER NIGHTS VOLUNTEER POSITONS

Survey Taker – Survey takers roam the venue administering opinion surveys to concertgoers. This requires an outgoing person who isn’t afraid to approach people, and has a good sense of appropriateness and timing.

Ticket Taker – Using an electronic ticket scanner to scan customers’ tickets as they enter the venue, this position requires a polite, cheerful person who isn’t afraid of crowds, has a keen eye for fake tickets, and can quickly handle repetitive motion with their hands. Must be able to attend all orientations and training.

Usher – Ushers enforce Summer Nights policies, keeps aisles clear, and provides customer service by answering common questions. This position requires a polite, articulate, and confident person who works well independently and isn’t afraid to approach people.

VIP Area Monitor – The VIP Area Monitor checks VIP passes at the entrance to the VIP hospitality area. Requires a polite, confident and authoritative person who has excellent discretion to treat our VIPs with extra-special customer service, while still being firm towards others without the appropriate credentials.

VIP Gate Assistant – This person uses an electronic ticket scanner to scan VIP tickets and provide extra-special customer service to our VIPs as they enter the venue, directing them to their seating and hospitality area. Requires a polite, articulate person with the skills of a gracious host(ess).

VIP Seating Assistant – The VIP Seating Assistant greets VIPs and/or disabled customers in the VIP seating area, checking passes and helping with any special arrangements. This position requires a kind, gracious person who can maneuver (and help others maneuver) in a tight space.

FAMILY FOURTH VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Clean-up Crew – The day after the Family Fourth event, the Clean-up Crew roams the neighborhood surrounding Gasworks Park collecting refuse left by the happy crowds of the previous night. Armed with grabbers, gloves and plastic bags, the Clean-up Crew is an integral part of maintaining positive relations with the Wallingford neighborhood to which our event is a yearly guest.

Hands-on Art Activity Assistant – Hands-On Art Activity Assistants have a major role in directly involving the public in a fun and tactile way, by facilitating the creation of hands-on arts and crafts activities. VIP Parking Assistant – The Parking Assistant helps direct properly credentialed vehicles through the park to the reserved lot. Working in a small team, the Parking Assistants communicate to each other via radio and wear reflective vests. This position requires a lot of standing and sustained attention in a bustling environment.
