Tomoko Moriguchi-Matsuno, CEO, Uwajimaya Inc.
Uwajimaya is the largest family owned Asian Grocery and Gift Company celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2008. Ms. Matsuno graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and worked as a commercial artist for ten years before returning to the family business. She has served as a board member of the Bullitt Foundation, The Seattle Children's Theatre, International District Review Board, International PDA, and the Learning Tree Montessori School; as chairman of the Seattle Keiron Nursing Home auctions and Ayame Kai Guild for Keiro Nursing home; and as commissioner of the Asian Affairs Commission.
Karen Gates Hildt, Attorney at Law
Ms. Gates Hildt practices in public advocacy, estate planning, mediation, business negotiations, and arbitration. She also serves as facilitator/consultant for public and private educational and cultural institutions in needs assessment, strategic planning, foundation development, and planned giving. Ms. Gates Hildt was formerly Director for the Seattle Arts Commission.
Dave Dederer, VP Business Development at Melodeo, Inc./founding member, The Presidents of the United States of America
Melodeo's nuTsie.com service is a leading web/mobile music platform. The Presidents of the United States of America are a multi-platinum-selling, two-time Grammy-nominated musical group. Prior to experiencing global success in the mid-'90s with the Presidents, Mr. Dederer taught high school English at Kent Denver School and The Bush School, did public relations work on environmental issues, and attended graduate school in urban planning at the University of Washington. Before Melodeo, he was formerly a Senior Account Executive at Seattle's Pyramid Communications.
Clayton Lewis, Partner, Maveron LLC
Clayton Lewis is passionate about helping people achieve their full potential, whether it is in business, politics or athletics. He is a partner at Maveron LLC, a Seattle based venture capital firm. Lewis has an extensive background driving operations and a strong track record of returns, serving as President and Chief Operating Officer of HouseValues where he directed revenue growth in two years from $48 million to $98 million, while generating $35 million in net cash from operations. Prior to HouseValues Lewis was part of the executive team that took Onvia public, raising $240 million and completing five acquisitions in less than two years. As President and Chief Operating Officer, Lewis revamped the company's strategy, transformed it from a business-to-business to a business-to-government model.
In addition to two decades of business management experience, Lewis held positions in national politics, serving on Capitol Hill and in several high profile campaigns. He holds a degree in Business from the University of Washington where he was elected President of the Associated Students. In addition to his work in venture capital, Lewis is actively engaged with a number of leading community organizations, including currently serving on the Board of Trustees for Harborview Medical Center and previously on the Board of Flying House Productions, home of the Seattle Men's Chorus. Lewis is an avid athlete competing in triathlons and he enjoys traveling with his partner in remote countries on their bicycles or scuba diving in warm waters.
Meagan MacPhee, Artist/Illuminated Manuscript Painter
Ms. Macphee has been a creative artist, art collector, arts advocate and arts organization supporter for many years. Her wide experience includes arts and school organizations, board service, fundraising, and strategic planning, including events planning and donor programs. She serves as chair for One Reel's Governance Committee.
Anne (Fen) Fennessy, Partner, Cocker Fennessy
A principal member of well-known public affairs firm, Cocker Fennessy, Ms. Fennessy has years of experience advising public officials, business executives and others on effective communication and leadership. Her expertise covers the analysis of complex public policy matters, the design and oversight of strategies, and the construction of effective messages. Ms Fennessy formally acted as Communications Director for Seattle Mayor, Charles Royer, for the Port of Seattle, and as Communications Director and Senior Policy Advisor to Washington Governor Mike Lowry.

Fred C. Kiga, Vice President of State & Local Government Relations and Global Corporate Citizenship for The Boeing Company
Before coming to Boeing, Mr. Kiga was Director of Corporate and Government Relations for Russell Company, a position he held from 2003 through November 2007. From 1997 through 2000, Mr. Kiga served as the director of the Washington State Department of Revenue and then Chief of Staff for former Washington State Governor, Gary Locke from 2001 to 2003.
While serving with the Locke Administration, Mr. Kiga was responsible for organizing the Governor's Competitiveness Council, a council focused on improving the state's business climate, organized efforts to retain Boeing's 7E7 program, and implemented use of an innovative "Priorities of Government" budget process to address a $2.5 Billion deficit without a tax increase. Mr. Kiga currently serves on a number of professional/civic board and commissions including: UW Board of Regents the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle, Capitol Hill Housing Improvement Program, BOLD Initiative, the Association of Washington Business, Washington Dental Service Foundation, and the Northwest Area Foundation.
Tom Corddry, CEO, Einstrong LLC
Mr. Corddry served life without parole on the Bumbershoot Board until 2008. He is CEO of Einstrong LLC (web software), is on the Board of the Photographic Center Northwest, lives in Madison Park, and is very proud of his exceptional children. He led the team that created Encarta at Microsoft in the 1990s, was Creative Director for Watts/Silverstein in the 80s, and led the team that created KZAM radio in the 1970s. What he did in the 60s is his own business, and he is trying his best to remember it. He graduated from Brown University in 1970, and remembers that.
Cynthia Hartwig
Ms. Hartwig is an advertising creative director and a fiction writer, currently at work on a novel. She helped spearhead Bumbershoot's transition from a city department to its current status as a free-standing 501(c)3 non-profit produced by One Reel. Ms. Hartwig is a strong advocate of the arts, including literature, visual arts and photography. She is a current Board member at Narrative Magazine and Bridges to Understanding.
Paul Dorpat
Mr. Dorpat spends most of his time in his basement writing books and articles. And yet, he never learned to spell or punctuate very well. These faults he managed to hide while performing/acting as an editor. Mr. Dorpat also enjoys art – graphic and sound. He has many plans in these regards, but is running low on time.
Wanda Herndon, President and CEO of W Communications
W Communications is a public relations consulting firm. Ms. Herndon served as senior vice president of Global Communications for Starbucks Coffee Company and Officer of Starbucks Coffee Company from 1995 to 2006. At Chairman and CEO Howard Schultz's request, she returned to Starbucks to provide interim strategic communications leadership during a period of transformation for the company. A native of Flint, Michigan, Ms. Herndon also pursued her career in the Michigan House of Representatives and at two additional Fortune 500 corporations. Her philanthropic and community service endeavors include The Greater Seattle Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, the 5th Avenue Theatre, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., YWCA of King County, and Zion Preparatory Academy.
Keven J. Davis, Partner, Garvey Schubert Barer
Mr. Davis represents athletes, directly or through their agencies, in all facets of their business dealings, including negotiation of employment and endorsement contracts. He also counsels clients in the entertainment industry, with particular emphasis on the music, television and literary practice areas. Mr. Davis has served on several Seattle area boards and committees including the Sports Lawyers Association, 2006-2009, Brothers and Sisters of King County and National, and was President of the Gary Payton Foundation (1996-2001).
Shawn Wong, Professor of English , University of Washington.
Mr Wong is the author of two novels and six other books. His second novel, American Knees, was made into the movie, "Americanese," and will be released by IFC Films in 2008. Mr. Wong specializes in creative writing and Asian American Studies. He has also been awarded a national Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowship and a Rockefeller Foundation residency in Italy. He has won several writing awards including a first prize from the Society of Professional Journalists in the humor category in 1998. Mr. Wong also serves as a consulting and contributing editor for Transtext(e)s/Transcultures, a joint French and Chinese journal published by Universite Jean Moulin and University of Henan.
Mark Droppert, Counsil Graham & Dunn
Mr. Droppert's legal practice, as a member of Graham & Dunn's Emerging Companies Team, includes a broad range of corporate law and commercial transactions, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, complex negotiations and strategic planning. He has extensive experience as a corporate lawyer and has (and does) serve as a member of management or as a director for a number of companies, including PACCAR inc, Virginia Mason Medical Center, Physio-Control Corporation, Omrix Biopharmaceuticals Inc, and MedEfficiency Inc. Mr. Droppert has also served as a director of a number of non-profit organizations, in addition to One Reel.
Amit Shah, President, International News Inc.
Mr. Shah is a founding partner of International News, Inc. The company was established in 1983 and Amit assumed the presidency in 1997. International News, Inc. engages in design, merchandising, marketing, and distribution of sportswear globally. Included in the many labels International News markets is International News, Mecca USA, Alphanumeric, and Trigelle. International News, Inc. operates retail stores in Washington State, British Columbia and Germany. Mr. Shaw is a graduate of the University of Washington.
Michael Singer, President, Health Investments, Revolution LLC
Mr. Singer is currently President of Health Investments, Revolution LLC, specializing in consumer health investments. Previously, Mr. Singer held executive positions at Data Critical Corp. and Microsoft and was an investment banker in New York and San Francisco for approximately ten years. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of SparkPeople, a diet and fitness website company, and MedEfficiency, a woundcare company.
Susan Silver, CEO and Creator, Susan Silver Management
Ms. Silver started in the music business in the early 80's as an independent concert promoter and went on to create Susan Silver Management, an artist management company founded in the mid-80's. Over the years Silver Management has represented Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and Screaming Trees. She currently manages Alice In Chains and handles the catalogues of Soundgarden. She is also a board member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and is on the advisory board of the Youngstown Cultural Center. Ms. Silver has an 8 year old daughter named Lily.
Norm Rice, Former Mayor of Seattle, Distinguished Practitioner-in-Residence University of Washington
Norman B. Rice is currently the Distinguished Visiting Practitioner at University of Washington's Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs. Rice will assist in launching a series of seminars on Civic Engagement for the 21st Century. His three year appointment is under the auspices of a grant from the Boeing Company.
Rice is former president and chief executive officer of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle, a $48 billion bank. Retired in March 2005, he assumed his chief executive responsibilities in February 1999. In this post, he brought his passion and commitment for housing and community development to the private sector and worked with more than 375 financial institutions to make their communities better places to work and live. Prior to joining the Seattle Bank, Mr. Rice was Mayor of Seattle, president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and a long-time city council member.
Under his leadership, the Seattle Bank developed a new mortgage purchase product line and created innovative homeownership programs and funding strategies to help low- and moderate-income families and neighborhoods. The company is recognized as a national leader for its innovations in housing and community development finance, particularly in building public/private partnerships to serve Native Americans and first-time homebuyers. As bank president, Mr. Rice served as Chair of the Federal Home Loan Bank Presidents' Committee on Housing and Community Development.
As mayor, Mr. Rice earned national acclaim for revitalizing Seattle's downtown and strengthening the city neighborhoods through public-private partnerships. While in office, Mr. Rice championed for an improved public school system, breathed new life into Seattle's downtown with new retail centers, housing and civic buildings, and implemented a model welfare-to-work program. He served in this office from 1990 - 1997.
Prior to his election as mayor, Mr. Rice served three terms as a member of the Seattle City Council, and two years as council president. Prior to entering public life, he served as Governmental Affairs Director for the Puget Sound Council of Governments, and was manager of corporate contributions and social policy at Rainier National Bank (now part of Bank of America). Mr. Rice holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and a Master of Arts degree in public administration from the University of Washington. He holds honorary doctorates from Seattle University, University of Puget Sound and Whitman College.
Mr. Rice is committed to fostering the development of vibrant, diverse, self-sustaining communities through housing and economic development. Currently, Mr. Rice is a Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Enterprise Community Partners, United Way of King County, and the Fifth Avenue Theatre. He serves on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Greater Seattle and the KING County Committee to End Homelessness.
Mr. Rice is the recipient of numerous professional and community awards, including:
- The American Jewish Federation's Human Relations Award, presented to both Mr. Rice and his wife, Dr. Constance Rice.
- National Award for Leadership on Behalf of Neighborhoods, from the National Neighborhood Coalition
